Arthritis Cream

"Sometimes called degenerative joint disease or “wear and tear” arthritis, osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic condition of the joints. It occurs when the cartilage or cushion between joints breaks down leading to pain, stiffness and swelling." (source)

I was diagnosed with OA when I was 23 years old and have spent more than 20 years searching for natural remedies to relieve the pain and stiffness in my joints. I have found that heat feels better than cold and often wrap achey joints in a heated flax bag (or soak in the hot tub) for relief.

Because heat seems to feel better than cold, I loaded up this recipe with essential oils that are warming in addition to analgesic (pain relieving) and anti-inflammatory. The only cooling essential oil is peppermint which gives it a nice "icy-hot" affect.

Let's start with the base! I knew I wanted to include magnesium because it is so effective for join pain. In fact, "magnesium strengthens bones; maintains nerve and muscle...

Bug Repellent With Essential Oils

This is a recipe that I created to sell at the local farmers market! It works VERY well...if you use it correctly. Basically, think of it like a massage oil and cover every bit of exposed skin. It works best when applied with your hands and not simply sprayed on!

Every one of these ingredients has clinical (published) research attesting to its effectiveness (that's why I included each of them) and the quantities are based on the maximum amounts that can be used without causing skin irritation. If you don't want to buy 4 different carrier oils, just use organic, non-gmo soybean oil.

Adult (12+ years):

• 45 mL (3 tbsp) Soybean Oil (This one:
• 5 mL (1 tsp) Neem Oil (This one:
• 5 mL (1 tsp) Karanja Oil (This one:
• 5 mL (1 tsp) Andiroba Oil (This one:
• 6-18 drops Cedarwood EO
• 6-18 drops Citronella EO
• 4-12 drops Rose Geranium...

Eczema (kids & babies)

While many adults also have eczema, it usually appears in the first six months to five years of a child’s life. In fact, as many as 10% of all infants have some form of eczema. (source:

Although scientists aren't absolutely certain what causes eczema, we know that there is a connection to allergies - both environmental (like chemicals in laundry soap) and food (like gluten). (more info:

I created this recipe to help calm the irritated skin and provide much-needed moisture. I sent samples to over a dozen people to make sure that the recipe worked as well as I hoped.

For some little ones, the results were immediate and amazing! However, there were a few kiddos who did not see lasting results from this recipe. There could be many reasons for that! In my experience, it takes time and effort to figure out the "triggers" for eczema. Everything from laundry soap to stress can cause this...

Cistus (Rose Of Sharon)

essential oils Feb 20, 2017

Cistus (Cistus ladanifer) is also called "Rose of Sharon" and "Rock Rose". Cistus is a perennial shrub that grows wild throughout the Mediterranean and is often cultivated as a garden flower for it's beautifully sweet aroma.

Cistus essential oil is steam-distilled from the flowers, leaves, and stems/twigs of the shrub. It may also be found for sale as a solvent-extracted "absolute". Cistus absolute (also called "Labdanum") has a deeper aroma and is preferred for making perfume. Steam-distilled cistus is better for therapeutic applications!

How to Make Essential Oil Inhalers

essential oils Jan 23, 2017

“What are you sticking up your nose?!”

Ahhhh boys. Teenage boys to be exact. Only this time I was the one with the *thing* up my nose and the boys were the ones puzzled/alarmed/grossed. Talk about a role reversal!

The thing was an Aromatherapy Inhaler!

….and it wasn’t up my nose. I was holding it one inch below my nose and breathing in the beautiful vapors of eucalyptus and peppermint. Inhalers are very handy! The scent will last 4-6 months and you only use 15 drops of essential oil. Just in case you’ve never made an inhaler before, I made a video for you!

Here are the important links:
